Volunteers of America-Greater New York is one of the largest nonprofit developers and providers of safe and affordable permanent supportive housing in the metro New York area. We were also one of the first adopters of the model in the country.
Our portfolio of permanent supportive housing serves families and individuals, including seniors, veterans, adults with behavioral health challenges or substance use disorders, and adults experiencing unsheltered homelessness.
By developing safe, affordable, and permanent housing for people in need, we can improve the quality of life for all of the communities we serve.
What We Do
Supportive housing is a critical service that VOA–GNY provides throughout New York City and Northern New Jersey. In addition to low-cost housing, we offer comprehensive, wrap-around support services that help individuals rebuild their lives, reclaim their dignity, and move towards independence.
Trained staff help residents address the barriers to housing stability that they previously faced, including access to physical and mental health services. Other support includes referrals to community resources, assistance securing benefits and/or employment, access to financial literacy education, and more.
Why It Matters
Permanent housing paired with comprehensive on-site support services is a highly effective solution that can prevent chronic homelessness. Our Street to Home pilot program is a successful example of this solution in action.

Referrals for most of our permanent supportive housing programs are made through New York City and State agencies. Some units are available through NYC’s Housing Connect lottery.
