Ayesha Khan, Chief Development Officer at Volunteers of America-Greater New York, joined California Attorney General Rob Bonta on stage at Concordia Annual Summit to speak about how public-private partnerships can be solutions to America’s housing crisis.
Khan presented Hillside Grove, VOA-GNY’s latest affordable housing project on Staten Island, as an example of how the organization leverages public and private partnerships to advance housing development.
Hillside Grove, a mixed-use development on the site of a former Sanitation Department garage, will feature 232 units of affordable housing with 90 reserved for low-income seniors, a courtyard space for residents, a public plaza, and a grocery store.
“As a nonprofit housing developer, we have a unique value proposition to offer the community.” Khan said. “We’ve already established trust and credibility in the communities we’re serving and we’re not motivated by profit. We are reinvesting any developer fees we receive on projects back into the community, as is evident by the Staten Island project, really revitalizing those communities.”
