Staff Spotlight: Maimouna Balde
At VOA-GNY, our team members inspire us every day with their dedication, compassion, and commitment to the people we serve.
We’re excited to spotlight Maimouna Balde, Case Manager Supervisor at our Commonwealth Avenue Residence whose work with our supportive housing clients shows the heart of VOA in action.
When Maimouna joined VOA-GNY, she wasn’t sure what to expect—but she quickly found her calling. “I learned how to be patient helping people who are in need,” she says. “That’s what motivates me every day, especially working with older adults who need extra support.”
Maimouna’s impact is in the everyday moments. She helps clients manage benefits, access essentials, and feel supported along the way. “If they are financially stable, it’s already a big step for them,” she says. “I approach my work the same way I would for my own family.”
Known for her compassion and teamwork, Maimouna goes above and beyond—supporting group activities, offsite events, and training new case managers. Her colleagues admire her as a role model who leads by example and strengthens the Commonwealth team. “Clients often come to me even when I’m not their case manager,” she shares. “It tells me I’m doing the right thing.”
In just a year, Maimouna was promoted—a milestone that reflects her skill and dedication. Outside of VOA, she enjoys time with her children and experimenting with new recipes at home, carrying her personal care into every part of her life.
“I love what I do,” she says. “I’m proud of the clients I help every day, and I’m excited to keep growing in this role.”
