Operation Backpack® on BronxNet’s OPEN

Kim Pompey, Director of Corporate & Community Engagement at Volunteers of America-Greater New York, joined Gary Axelbank on OPEN, BronxNet’s weekday magazine show, to talk about this year’s Operation Backpack® campaign, which helped provide every child living in New York City shelters with a backpack.

A record-breaking 29,329 backpacks were provided to children living in New York City shelters and most were collected through VOA-GNY’s 24th annual Operation Backpack® campaign.

Kim discussed why starting the school year prepared matters for children experiencing homelessness, the community support that makes Operation Backpack® possible, and how VOA-GNY works year-round to help New Yorkers build stability.
