Restoring Hope - Meet David

An Air Force veteran, David battled drug addiction and lived on the streets of New York for 25 years. When he finally agreed to come to our Safe Haven transitional housing program, his outlook changed immediately. Today, David has regained his independence.

He has been living in an apartment complex for veterans in the Bronx for almost a year. “I am sitting in my living room, on the couch that I never had, watching a TV that I never had, looking at the dining table that I never had, and with a key to the front door that I never had,” he says. “I did this on my own,” he adds proudly.

He has reconnected with his family – his mother, his two daughters, his younger son, and his grandchildren. And he has a circle of supportive friends from his time at our Safe Haven Program. “We’re military guys! It’s not about you or me; it’s about all of us as one. We all look out for each other. We wore the uniform.”
