The Home Depot Foundation

Since beginning its partnership with Volunteers of America in April 2011, The Home Depot® Foundation has given more than $11 million to the organization to improve housing for homeless veterans and their families. VOA is one of the nation's largest nonprofit organizations addressing veterans' needs, serving more than 40,000 homeless veterans each year in 46 cities.

In 2012, the Foundation awarded VOA-Greater New York a grant of $175,000 to renovate its East 119th Street site. Inside, shared kitchens and lounges have been remodeled and foster a feeling of community among the residents. Outside, a basketball court, chess tables and a landscaped courtyard that honors all branches of the military provide recreation space that is both invigorating and comforting, a place to “be at ease."

Expanding on an already vibrant partnership, in June 2013, The Home Depot® Foundation pledged more than $2 million in new grants to Volunteers of America affiliates to address the critical need for housing and services for U.S. military veterans. In the Greater New York area, more than $430,000 was used to enrich three of our Bronx veterans' programs: Cromwell Avenue “Safe Haven", Commonwealth Avenue Veterans Residence, and Patriot House.

In 2016, The Home Depot Foundation again pledged support for the East 119th Street site which offers permanent supportive housing for male and female veterans.
