VOA-Greater New York is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors and prospective donors (“Donors”). The purpose of this Donor Privacy Policy (“Donor Privacy Policy”) is to provide transparency as to the our practices, policies, and procedures for the collection, use, and protection of information relating to Donors.
Our general Privacy Policy (the “Privacy Policy”), applies to all Donors and our online visitors at our website (“Website”). The Privacy Policy is part of, and incorporated into, this Donor Privacy Policy.
By accessing the Website or by submitting your personally identifying information to us, you consent to our processing and handling of your personally identifying information pursuant to the terms and conditions of this Donor Privacy Policy and the Privacy Policy.

As a Donor, there are times when you will submit personally identifying information (“Personal Information”) to us or any of our staff. “Personal Information” shall mean information that identifies you personally, including without limitation: name, address, telephone number, email address, other contact information and payment information. Personal information may be collected if you register for an event, when you make a contribution, either on our website, at a special event, over the phone or by mail; or in other ways not described above.
Use and Disclosure of Personal Information
Volunteers of America uses secure socket layer (SSL) 128-bit encryption to protect transmission of the information you submit to us when you use our secure online forms.
We will collect payment information, billing address and other information necessary to process a donation or event registration. The information you provide to us is stored securely. Volunteers of America ensures the safety of your credit card data with high-quality encryption software and the https:// industry standard security protocol to communicate with your browser. This technology makes online credit card transactions extremely secure. However, if you are uncomfortable with donating online, you may also contribute by calling (212) 496-4358 to contact the Volunteers of America-Greater New York office.
You have a choice in how often we contact you, whether by mail or e-mail. We value your support and care about your time, and want you to feel good about the support you provide to help people in need. We realize that you may not be able to help each time we ask. Or, that you may prefer to make a charitable gift only at certain times of the year. Like many people, you may also be concerned about the volume of mail you receive and the impact it has on our environment. We value your support and your trust and therefore, we want to offer you options that will enhance our relationship.
To modify your mailing preferences, please email us at donor@voa-gny.org. and tell us the following:
1. The name and address that appears on the mailing pieces you receive from us.
2. If you would like to receive periodic e-mail updates.
3. How many times you would like to receive postal mail from us. The Choices are: No change in the frequency of mailings; mailings six times a year; mailings four times a year; mailings two times a year; a mailing once a year; or no mailings.
4. To keep costs down, Volunteers of America exchanges list with other reputable organizations. If you do not want your name exchanged, please email us at donor@voa-gny.org.
We will not send you mailings on behalf of other organizations.
We will use your information to comply with the law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to conform to the requirements of law or comply with legal process served on us.
We will use the personal information to protect against potential fraud. We may verify with third parties the information collected in the course of processing a gift, event registration or other donation. If you use a credit or debit card on the website, we may use card authorization and fraud screening services to verify that your card information and address matches the information that you supplied to us and that the card being used has not been reported lost or stolen.
You have the right to review information that we have collected about you. To review that information please email us at donor@voa-gny.org.
We have vendors that assist with processing and managing donations and Donor data. We may give these vendors access to Donor data. Our vendors are bound by strict confidentiality rules and are permitted to use Donor data only to support our operations.
Changes to the Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to amend, change or modify this Donor Privacy Policy at any time and without prior notice, and any changes will become effective immediately upon being posted unless we advise you otherwise. We will note the last update at the top of this Donor Privacy Policy.
