April Volunteer Opportunities

Beautification Projects

Warmer weather is approaching and there are several opportunities for volunteers to participate in beautification projects, such as painting and landscaping, at Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-GNY) residences and shelters. Sample needs right now include:

  • Creating a garden in the backyard of our supportive housing residence in Perth Amboy, NJ that serves 24 individuals with a history of behavioral health issues.
  • Planting new plants and trimming hedges at one of our supportive housing residences in the Bronx that serves 200 veterans, formerly homeless individuals, and those living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Painting the resident lounges at our property in Manhattan that serves 72 individuals with a history of behavioral health issues.

Autism Awareness Month

VOA-GNY operates two preschools for children with developmental delays in Staten Island and the South Bronx, the latter of which also serves typically developing children through its Universal Pre-K program. Treat our students to a special school day filled with games, crafts, and goodie bags for all!

Host an Easter Party

Spring Recess for NYC public schools is April 19-26 and falls right around the Easter holiday. Host a vacation day for the children at one of our family shelters filled with games, crafts, snacks, and of course, an Easter egg hunt!
