Support and Advocacy Groups

Support Groups
Community inclusion is at the forefront of Volunteers of America's Charter Oak Community Support Services program, and we develop peer support networks to prevent or rectify social isolation. Some of our groups include a social club for individuals living with acquired brain injuries, a committee for families to become more involved with our organization and a social group called the Generation Y Club for those born between 1982 through 1995.

Advocacy Groups
The self-advocacy movement began at the grassroots level where local leadership was called upon to organize groups of people to stand up for social change.  Today, self advocacy is a national movement, one to which the Charter Oak Community Support Services is deeply committed. Our Client Advocacy Group is a forum in which our consumers can discuss civil rights, employment options, discrimination, assistive technology, transportation difficulties and more.
