Partnering with the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services

In partnership with the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services and the Department of Workers Rehabilitation, Charter Oak Community Support Services offers a continuum of services to help individuals with disabilities and physical limitations prepare for, find and retain employment.

From vocational assessments to job readiness training, job placement and supported employment, our experienced and extraordinarily dedicated job developers provide individualized services to every Charter Oak client. Our goal is to place participants within 30 days of intake and assist them as their abilities develop and they are ready for more challenging employment.

Once a job is identified, our job developer will help negotiate and discuss with an employer any special accommodations or supports that are needed.  Volunteers of America's Charter Oak Community Support Services has longstanding relationships with local companies involving auto repair, maintenance, retail, clerical, nursing home care, and more.

Through vocational assessments we evaluate each participant on their level of productivity, strengths, limitations, stamina, work habits, level of supervision needed, and other areas of performance.  A report is generated summarizing the individual’s employable skills and recommending a plan of action for permanent employment.

Every client has a job coach; this person teaches and models appropriate job performance and work-site etiquette, provides positive feedback and constructive criticism, and offers any assistance needed while on the job.
