Homeless Individuals & Families
Volunteers of America is a major provider of services to individuals and families that are homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. Our continuum of care includes outreach at JFK and LaGuardia airports, transitional shelter, permanent, supportive housing, and case management for those at risk of becoming homeless.
Airport Outreach
- Kennedy and LaGuardia Outreach teams engage people who appear homeless, at JFK and LaGuardia airports, to assess their needs and offer assistance, with the goal of helping them accept service.

Transitional Shelter for Individuals
- The Community Support Services Program provides comprehensive services to people living with mental illness and assists them in obtaining permanent housing.

- The Jamaica Women’s Next Step Shelter is a 65-bed facility designed to serve the shelter system's most resistant clients. Providing intensive, structured case management services coupled with strict client responsibility to overcome the barriers that have prevented them from moving out of the shelter system into permanent housing.
