Individuals and Families Affected by Domestic Violence

Volunteers of America offers a safe refuge for families and individuals recovering from domestic violence. Our continuum of care begins with a referral or emergency hotline call and culminates in safe, independent living arrangements.

Transitional shelters located in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens include Dove House, Liberty House, New Hope, Network of Hope, and Safe Dwelling. In addition, community-based scattered-site apartments are available in Brooklyn.

Residents receive medical and mental health services, crisis intervention, job and housing assistance, and legal advocacy. The children benefit from interventions appropriate for their age and specific situations. Both children and adults are taught the skills they need to recognize, avoid and respond to violence.

In New York City, the 24-hour hotline number is (800) 621-4673.
