Individuals and Families Affected by Domestic Violence

Volunteers of America offers a safe refuge for families and individuals recovering from domestic violence. Our continuum of care begins with a referral or emergency hotline call and culminates in safe, independent living arrangements.

We operate three confidentially located emergency transitional programs as well as secure, scattered-site housing where survivors can find shelter and the support they need to start the process of healing. Comprehensive case-management services provide support to meet the specific needs of each family and help prevent future domestic violence.

Residents receive medical and mental health services, crisis intervention, job and housing assistance, and legal advocacy. The children benefit from interventions appropriate for their age and specific situations. Both children and adults are taught the skills they need to recognize, avoid and respond to violence.

In New York City, the 24-hour hotline number is (800) 621-4673.
