Community Service Campaigns
Throughout the year, Volunteers of America promotes a number of community service programs including back-to-school and holiday toy drives for children, holiday food drives for people in need, and year-round gift drives for older adults.
Preparations are underway for Operation Backpack 2011. At the start of each school year, Volunteers of America distributes thousands of new, filled, grade-specific backpacks to children living in shelters throughout New York City. Starting in May, we begin raising money and accepting donations for the campaign.
You can help today by making an online donation or by visiting our Operation Backpack 2011 page for details on how to donate backpacks and supplies or launch a drive.
Our year-round Birthday Wishes
program provides children in our family shelters essential childhood
moments they might otherwise be denied: celebrations of their birthdays.
At monthly parties, corporate partners, donors, and volunteers create
memorable birthday parties, to bring normalcy and hope to the unsettled
lives of these children.
Gifts of the Heart is our year-round program to collect gifts for adults and older adults in our care. We serve many vulnerable populations of aging men and women, people with developmental disabilities, and people battling serious illness or addiction. We try to make sure that no one in our care is neglected on special days like birthdays and holidays throughout the year. If you can donate money or new, unopened gifts, or hold a collection drive for this program, please contact Kristin Kelly-Jangraw.
