Corporate and individual volunteers and donors are the lifeblood of Volunteers of America's annual drives and fundraising events. Please take a look at some of our photo galleries, and see how fun and rewarding it can be to join in and help our neighbors in need.
Operation Backpack 2013
Operation Backpack 2013 was a huge success thanks to the hard work of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors. Not only did we surpass our initial goal of distributing 15,000 backpacks but we were able to respond to every shelter request, distributing a total of 16,100 backpacks to children living in New York City's homeless and domestic violence shelters. Take a look at these photos of our record-breaking drive.
Bowl to Give Back 2013
Bowl to Give Back is our annual, bowling fundraiser that supports the vital, year-round social service programs of Volunteers of America-Greater New York. It is also the kick-off for Operation Backpack, our drive to provide thousands of children in New York City's homeless and domestic violence shelters with new, filled backpacks by the start of the school year. Bowl to Give Back 2013, presented by York International, was a great success, raising $70,000! Grand prizes at Bowl to Give Back 2013 included a hotel stay and dinner at the Trump International Hotel and Tower, and Yankees tickets to some of the best seats in the house, along with a baseball signed by Yankees reliever David Robertson. Please look at our photo gallery of this high-spirited evening.
We believe the gift of a birthday party can provide normalcy and hope in the unsettled lives of children who are homeless. Corporate and individual volunteers have helped by underwriting the cost of party supplies and food, and by joining in at the celebrations. See photos from recent Brightening Birthday parties
