For over 100 years, the money collected by Volunteers of America's Sidewalk Santas has funded the Hope and Hearth holiday food voucher program which distributes food vouchers to more than 6,600 people in need, including families with hardships, homebound elderly and people living with serious illnesses. Acting as cash, these vouchers are a normalizing and empowering method of assistance. They allow the purchasers to shop in their own neighborhoods, use the coupons to choose food that is traditional for the holiday that they celebrate, and cook and enjoy a celebratory of their own with family and friends.
