Ranked by Worth Magazine as "One of the Best," Volunteers of America is one of the oldest and most respected human services organizations in the nation. The Greater New York affiliate alone serves more than 37,000 people each year, providing shelter, education, training and permanent supportive housing to the homeless. We also help children with special needs, mentally-ill adults, pre-parolees, at-risk youth, women and children escaping violent domestic situations, and others, but we are always striving to reach even more people who are in desperate need of help. Appreciated Securities - A Gift that Saves Taxes Twice!
Why not, when considering a gift to Volunteers America, make a gift of appreciated securities instead of cash? Any securities you own that have increased in value since you bought them, are subject to capital gains when you sell them. However, when you make a gift of these securities to Volunteers of America – as long as you have held them for at least one year - you receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market value as of the date of transfer.
