Homeless Adults
Volunteers of America provides more than 2,000 shelter beds and comprehensive services for homeless men at four facilities in the New York region. Outreach teams at LaGuardia and Kennedy airports, and the Journal Square PATH Station offer homeless people access to shelter, medical care and other services.
Transitional Housing for Families
Volunteers of America provides housing and support services for 245 families in apartments at three transitional residences in the Bronx and Manhattan.
Supportive Housing for People with Special Needs
Volunteers of America operates more than 1,200 units of special housing for low-income people and/or people who are formerly homeless, living with mental illness, HIV/AIDS, or substance abuse issues. Program includes special housing and support services for mildly to severely mentally retarded adults.
Services for At-Risk Youth
Volunteers of America operates community-based residences and independent living programs providing specialized services to at-risk and troubled youth.
Correctional Programs/Halfway Houses
Volunteers of America operates three community-based residential facilities in New Jersey serving over 180 pre-parolees.
Services for People with HIV and AIDS
Volunteers provide over 21,000 hours of respite services each year for caregivers of people with AIDS in New York's mid-Hudson region (Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties). Free legal counsel is provided to HIV- infected parents so that they can plan for their children's future.
Special Education for Pre-School Children
286 developmentally delayed and normally functioning children receiving pre-K educational services at two schools in the Bronx and Staten Island.
