Operation Backpack engages the entire Greater New York community in its effort to ensure that every child who is homeless returns to school with a new backpack filled with grade-specific supplies. Last year, thanks to the 93 companies that held backpack and school supply drives, and the hundreds of individuals who donated, Operation Backpack distributed 7,000 full backpacks and another 695 unfilled backpacks to children living in shelters throughout the five boroughs. With more families entering the shelter system, donations down, and the loss of several key Operation Backpack partners that are no longer in business, your help is needed now more than ever to ensure these children begin the school year looking and feeling more like their classmates.
